Cardio week comes to a close on a high note!

Cardio week has been so fun for me, because I enjoy the challenge of collecting points for workouts.  I got to be super creative in a realm of fitness that I feel comfortable in.  That being said, it was also a very tiring week.  Lots of cardio means needing more rest at night, which I didn't make time for on enough nights this week.

This culminated on Thursday night when, with the hubs out of town, I decided to paint our kitchen.  I was up until 12:30, and then up at 6:30 am with the wee little one.  So on Friday I decided to take a rest day.  And by rest day, I mean literally the most lounging around I have done in a looooooong time.  And while it felt great to be lazy while I was being lazy, by the end of the day I felt like I needed to MOVE!  But hubs surprised us and came home a day early, so we relaxed and ate a big yummy dinner of jambalaya and sauteed fresh green beans and washed it down with a glass of red wine.

This morning we rounded the troops and hit the pavement!  We jogged for a half hour with no stopping which is a big accomplishment for me!  And I kept a decent pace to which Ned could at least hold a comfortable jogging pace beside me.  It was surprisingly fun (and the time went by quickly!) :)

Back at home and on a workout high, I decided to try to make green smoothies.  You know, healthified smoothies with the addition of special seeds, spinach, almonds, etc.  Starting with a base of ice, banana and milk, I added almonds, cooked and chilled oatmeal, spinach and chia seeds.  The first sip was pretty good!  Good consistency and good taste.  But by the time I poured and served one glass to Ned and one for myself, they had gotten thick and tasted gross.  So gross.  Poor Ned thought I was trying to poison him! So it was a total fail.  Do you drink green smoothies?  If so, please share your favorite recipe in the comments section below!

Overall cardio week has been good.  It's brought out a true sense of competition between the three teams as we all scramble to gather as many points as we can.  Tonight I've got cardioFIT virtually which should give me a good healthy head start to Superbowl Sunday!

  1. I never had green smoothies before, but good to know what to look out for if I'm bold as you to make it.... maybe St. Patty's day. ;) & way to go with Cardio week, glad you got your rest, it'll make the race to week 3 that much more interesting. :) See you at the finish line.

  2. My fave green smoothie = one very ripe banana, 2 cups raw kale, 1/3 cup milk, 1 tbs honey, 3-5 ice cubes. Even my friends and roommates like it and they gag at anything other than bacon and pizza. I have successfully experimented with tossing in raw almonds, cocoa powder, cinnamon, 1/2 a lemon, and juiced green apple. See you in cardioFIT tonight!

  3. I make green smoothies all the time! Either with Kale or Spinach. I do 2 cups of either green, or 1 cup of each, 16 oz almond milk, wheat germ, ground flax ( 1-2 tblsp. of each), and about a cup of frozen fruit either one kind or two mixed. . .I freeze the left overs and have them as a frozen breakfast or snack! Good luck and way to go on cardio week : )
